Booking Newborn Photos

Newborn babies are only fresh for a few short weeks. That's why it's important to schedule your newborn photos as soon after birth as possible. This way, you can capture your baby's delicate features and unique personality before they change too much. When you see your baby every day, it’s hard to recognize the changes – they seem almost imperceptible. But when you look back to the early days, you realize just how much their tiny features shift in such a short amount of time. This is part of why it is so important to capture those fleeting early days. It can feel overwhelming to consider having a photographer in your home within the first two weeks of your precious newborn’s life, but once the time has passed, you’ll be forever grateful for the time capsule! Every photographer has different guidelines, but I ask that parents reach out to me within four days of your baby’s birth to schedule your newborn session!

It is truly amazing to see how much newborns grow and develop in just a few short weeks. By scheduling your session within the first two weeks of their lives, you will be able to capture all of the tiny details that make your baby so special. From their wrinkly little toes to their soft skin, newborn photos are a treasured way to remember this special time in your life – especially since there is very little sleep to help commit this time to memory (the real reason people are tricked into having more than one baby – forgetfulness!!).

As hard as these situations may be to think about, if you have a premature baby or your child is experiencing health issues, be sure to check with your doctor before scheduling any photos – it’s so important to keep everyone safe and healthy. This can be more important if you are planning posed photos, as some positions may not be optimal if you have a precious baby who comes home with oxygen. Just be sure to keep the lines of communication open!

While you may not be feeling your best in the days immediately following childbirth, trust in yourself that these images will be a beautiful way to highlight the early days of your growing family. If you are feeling overwhelmed by selecting outfits, ask your photographer! Most often, they either have tips and tricks to help you build the perfect ensemble, or they might have a client closet (I do!) which will allow you to simply be present! Hard as it is when you are first home with this precious new little life, try to let go of the perfection, and allow the early days to roll over you slowly while you soak up this time! A professional photographer will know how to best position your baby and use lighting to create beautiful, natural-looking photos that you'll treasure forever. So don't wait too long - call your photographer today to schedule your newborn session.
